英文摘要
When matter is cooled down, the laws of quantum mechanics operating on enormous numbers of particles can lead to very beautiful, but also technologically promising, phenomena such as superconductivity (flow of electrical current without resistance). The aims of this proposal are: firstly, to utilize a new laboratory that has been created at the University of Toronto to gain understanding of the complex properties of new materials in which superconductivity is very robust; and secondly to use extremely high pressures to search for new superconductors, with the ultimate goal of helping to create a room temperature superconductor.
