项目摘要

As consumer demand for natural products increases globally, there is an opportunity for Ontario to position**itself as a leader in one of the fastest growing sectors of the Canadian economy. While it has been thought for**years that the NP industry only represents a niche market opportunity, it is now evident that this sector has**exponential market potential. Further, proposed changes to cannabis legislation has resulted in medical**cannabis being one of the largest growing industries in Canada, with 38 of the Licensed Producers located in**Ontario. Loyalist College is a rural hub, located in an agricultural rich region, positioned strategically on the**401 corridor between Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal. Hops, grapes and more recently medical cannabis are**contributing to the economic growth of our region. Industry in our region are committed to differentiating**themselves, through the development of innovative, high quality and safe products for the market, contributing**to the health and wellness of Canadians and claiming a share of this multi-billion-dollar market. Through**consultations with industry and sector organizations, Loyalist College will work with industry to address**cross-sectoral challenges to stimulate industry applied research and development agendas, improve**productivity, increase training opportunities for students and industry personnel and accelerate**commercialization. The requested pilot supercritical carbon dioxide extractor described in this proposal is not**only highly relevant and timely for this sector but aligns with the strategic direction of applied research at the**College and builds on a highly successful industry-driven track record of natural product extraction and**analysis-based applied research.
