The renewable energy sector in Ontario, and globally is rapidly evolving. Emerging technologies such as pyrolysis**(heating organic matter in the absence of oxygen), which produces biochar, bio-oil and biogas represent one of**the most promising ways to extract value from tradition waste. However, the products of the pyrolysis process**are feedstock dependent and therefore pyrolysis conditions need to be carefully tuned in order to maximize the**desired output. Specifically this research proposal seeks to optimize the production and isolation of advanced**carbon materials (i.e. graphene) from agricultural, commercial and municipal waste streams.
