Delftia acidovorans RAY 209 is a patented plant growth promoting bacteria reported to make elemental sulfur more available to the plant. Lallemand Inc. markets a product which contains D. acidovorans RAY 209 as a component of a growth-promoting formulation specifically-targeting canola grown under sulfur limiting conditions. However, the mechanism by which Delfti acidovorans makes sulfur more available, as well as the extent, is not clear nor is the impact of this organism's activity on the availability and uptake of other nutrients, such as nitrogen and phosphorus. Accordingly, this project will seek to provide potential direct and indirect evidence of the mechanisms by which it enhances the availability of sulfur to plants, as well as ways to modulate that process. This information is necessary to allow Lallemand to more-effectively market the commercial product in an increasingly competitive market sector.******
