Harnessing the properties of quantum mechanics allows for new and more powerful devices and information processing schemes to be developed. These quantum-enabled systems can vastly outperform today's technologies that are based on classical physics inherited from Newton, Maxwell and others.**Systems in the quantum world are intrinsically delicate and challenging to manipulate. Dr. Laflamme's comprehensive research program combines fundamental and applied research to control and develop quantum systems so that their unique and powerful advantages can be physically realized. This work will be pursued theoretically and experimentally and will have substantial academic and commercial impact.
