The Western Arctic Research Centre (WARC) is one of three regional research centres operated by the Aurora Research Institute, the research division of Aurora College (the territorial post-secondary institution of the Northwest Territories). WARC is located in Inuvik, in the western Arctic region of the Northwest Territories. The region hosts the greatest density of Arctic communities, historic northern oil and gas exploration infrastructure, and the longest road network constructed on ice-rich permafrost in Canada (the Dempster and Inuvik-to-Tuktoyaktuk Highways). Climate warming and permafrost thaw are causing unprecedented landscape change, impacting aquatic ecosystems and terrestrial infrastructure. The Aurora College is requesting funds to purchase equipment to support ongoing programs, designed to improve and build on our understanding of landscape dynamics and change in permafrost environments and potential impacts on aquatic ecosystems and infrastructure in the Northwest Territories. The Aurora College will work closely with northern local decision makers, local practitioners, and industries who operate in the north, to develop and implement mitigation plans and future design innovation in the north.************
