Glaciers faithfully respond to changes in climate. In Canada, glaciers also represent a substantial source of renewable energy, contribute to the sustainability of ecosystems, and bolster the economy through tourism. A Tier II Canada Research Chair in Glacier Change will enable me to build on and accelerate my research program and advance our understanding of the relation between climate change and glacier response in the North and South American Cordillera. Improved knowledge of the links between climate and glacier response is required to document past climate change; this information is essential for predicting how glaciers will change in the future.
