Alpine glaciers represent a valuable freshwater resource that require further study. Over the next six years my research group proposes to: i) use high-resolution satellite imagery, airborne laser altimetry, and aerial photography to produce regional area and volume loss estimates for western Canada on a number of spatial and temporal scales; and ii) refine understanding of the behavior of glaciers at high latitude over century-to-millennial timescales using numerical dating techniques. Our proposed work includes collaboration with established national and international scientists. The results of our proposed research will be useful for provincial and national stakeholders, and the international scientific community.
