can operate either grid-tied or islanded and can switch between the two modes. Such complex system includes**distributed generators, renewable (wind, solar) or conventional, power electronic interface, storage and load. It**requires control of different tools for efficient operation, especially when dealing with intermittent resources.**Green Power Labs (GPL) develops prediction and energy management tools to maximize the efficiency of**operating microgrids based on solar sources with battery storage. The developed technology can be applied for**buildings and utilities. At the development stage, a simulated model of the microgrid is required to test the**control and energy management algorithms before deployment and operation.**In this proposal, a virtual test bed will developed to model a solar microgrid for testing GPL predictive energy**management Algorithms. The microgrid model will includes solar system, converters, battery storage with the**capability of operation in all modes. Control systems will be developed for operating the microgrid as an entity.**The project will provide a platform for Green Power Labs to develop and offer predictive control services and**products for building energy management, solar power plant management and demand response management.**Furthermore, it will help in training High Qualified Personnel (HQP) in this high technology field.**This project will bring contributions to scientific knowledge, solutions for industry and success for HQP**training in advanced technologies. Also, it will make Canada more productive and competitive in the field of**renewable energy.
