The wake behind a ship hull significantly influences the performance of the propeller and rudder. CFD**simulation can readily provide a detailed nominal wake distribution behind the bare hull. However, the**effective wake, including the interaction of the hull and propeller, is more challenging to predict. The proposed**project focuses on the prediction of effective wake for a ship model by using the simplified and detailed**methods with the objective to quantify the differences in accuracy of the two methods. The project will**ultimately determine which approach is most reliable for ship and propeller design. The proposed project**addresses VARD Marine's specific problem critical in improving fuel efficiency and noise reduction for**environmental protection. It will also enable VARD to further support the Canadian Shipbuilding Strategy and**Canada's global competitiveness in ship design and technology, which will ultimately benefit the Canadian**economy.
