The Nominee's proposed research program is to develop ideas and techniques in matrix analysis and operator theory for use in quantum information science. The proposed research program is uniquely positioned within the interplay of discovery and innovation: simultaneously building up the mathematical foundations behind the physical aspects of quantum information theory while at the same time using physically relevant questions as motivation to further the advancement of the mathematical theory. In this way, the proposed research program will contribute to both pure mathematics and quantum information theory, and will be highly relevant to a variety of disciplines in Science.
