Agriculture is a major cause of global environmental degradation around the world. Yet, the challenge of feeding humanity is not over, nearly a billion people are malnourished today. Further, the rising human population coupled with shifting diets is expected to double food demand by 2050. How can we meet this demand while lowering global environmental costs? To address this question, I develop global data sets, field observations, and global models to investigate how our farming systems influence the environment, how climate and other global changes influence agriculture, and to seek solutions to grow our food in less harmful ways.
