Single-crystal X-ray diffraction is a powerful technique which enables us to determine and visualize the structures of molecules and materials. The Metaljet diffractometer currently installed at the Université de Montréal contains the brightest available X-ray source for single-crystal diffractometers. It was the first such installation in North-America and remains the only metaljet diffractometer for molecular structures in Canada. The new, significantly more sensitive detector requested in this application allows the X-ray diffraction center to analyse smaller crystals and makes more and better structural data available to our research clients. ******The insights gained into the actual molecular structures, the geometries and relative orientations of molecules, are essential to understand what motivates the reactivity and properties of compounds and materials. This new equipment thus drives and enables developments in research programs in medicinal chemistry and drug development, biochemistry, catalysis, light-harvesting devices, advanced materials, and many more. **
