For hot-dip galvanizing of welded tubular trusses, holes to allow for filling, venting and drainage must be**specified. Since these holes will inevitably change the stress distribution at the joint location under loading, the**current method for determination of hot spot stresses for fatigue design does not apply. Falcon Galvanizing has**identified the need for research in this field. This research will generate formulae and charts for engineers to**determine the hot spot stresses in such connections with ease. The findings from the six-month project will**help the company propose improved fabrication specification to guide engineers and other specifiers to ensure**the intended service lives of galvanized tubular steel structures.
