The proposed research program will capitalize on Canada's international leadership in the production of rare isotope beams and our state-of-the-art gamma-ray spectroscopy research infrastructure to provide new insights into the structure of atomic nuclei and the properties of the strong nuclear force, deepen our understanding of how the heavy chemical elements are synthesized and ejected into the cosmos during cataclysmic astrophysical events such as supernova explosions and the mergers of neutron stars, and perform precise measurements of a special class of nuclear decays that provide demanding tests of our current understanding of fundamental particle interactions.
