Ultrafast Dynamics of Quantum Materials

The Yang group will build and develop advanced optical spectroscopies to probe the physical properties in two classes of quantum materials: two-dimensional (2D) atomically-thin transition-metal dichalcogenides, and topological Weyl semimetals. These emerging materials families are currently of great interest, because they not only provide fertile platforms to explore new physics in 2D nanostructures and topological quantum matter, but also hold great promise for a variety of optoelectronics, quantum information and clean energy applications. The studies will provide direct insight into the intrinsic physics in these quantum materials and will make essential steps towards future applications.
