The tremendous growth of smartphones and tablets, as well as their ability to access high-speed wireless data service ubiquitously, has made a profound impact on our daily lives. The proposed research focuses on future core technologies for the next-generation wireless cellular network infrastructure that will significantly improve its capacity, coverage, and cost effectiveness. The proposed architecture is based on the novel concept of Network Multi-Input Multi-Output (MIMO) in which multiple base-stations cooperate in transmitting and receiving data from the mobile users. The cooperative network MIMO architecture will bring unprecedented spectrum and power efficiencies and is envisioned to transform the way wireless cellular networks are deployed.
