This program will develop optical glass for a variety of high value-added applications *from a fundamental point of view. Using a combination of advanced experimental and *theoretical methods, including nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, acousto-optic *diffraction, and density functional theory calculations, glasses with optimized *response to environmental factors will be developed. Targeted applications include *glass with broad-banded response to stress, glass with minimized scattering loss for *high power optical fibers, and glass with highly optically responsive embedded *crystals for optical device fabrication.
