The Internet of Things (IoT) ecosystem can be viewed as a network of smart objects that gather data and communicate with each other to control the entities around us. The success of IoT depends on the performance of the underlying network, which consists of such smart objects as sensors, Radio Frequency Identification***(RFID) tags and readers, smart meters, the key IoT players. Several studies have been undertaken in the last decade in the area of algorithmic issues related to sensor deployment; topology control; load balancing, etc. However, due to the widespread nature of IoT, new challenges are on the horizon, some of which will be***addressed in this research program. New theoretical results will be generated with a range of applications in mind. Total six graduate and five undergraduate students will be trained with this grant over the next five years which will improve Canada's research capacity. The results of this research program will provide elegant solutions for various government and industrial sectors and will help develop close research collaborations between academia and industry. The research findings will be disseminated in leading refereed journals and presented at international conferences of the field.
