This project investigates and characterizes battery storage performance for electric golf vehicle applications. High-resolution data from a number of golf carts in the field will be collected and analyzed. Opportunities for improving charge algorithms and battery life based on field-specific conditions are to be investigated. Conditions of intermittent high discharge and incomplete charging have an effect on battery performance in terms of available capacity and charge behaviour. An enhanced data-driven understanding of battery behaviour in the field will be impactful in highlighting challenging field conditions and evolving the state of the art with respect to battery charging techniques.
