英文摘要
The mechanical properties of materials are considered a critically limiting factor in the design of mechanical components. This is of importance in aerospace, automotive and customer applications where material hardness and stiffness are the governing factors for design performance. In addition, new manufacturing technology as well as new materials enable enhanced design functions as well as reduced part weight. LEO Lab is a state-of-the-art custom orthotic production facility that enables manufacturing custom orthotics from foam, plaster casts and electronically submitted 3D laser scans. The objective of this engage project is to develop a novel testing protocol that is able to determine the deformation of orthotic shoes inserts subject to a complex loading pattern. The proposed project is also intended to conduct correlation of new 3D product with existing moulded designs. We aim to predict the deformation characteristics real parts subject to external loads under various environmental conditions. This project will provide Leo Lab with valuable information to further progress the development of new product, adoption of additive manufacturing technology and also offer the Canadian academia and industry with a leading edge technology and practical solutions for novel future material development.
