The objectives of the proposed project are to develop smart techniques by using cost-effective solutions to increase the energy efficiency of buildings. This will help lead to net-zero energy solutions for Canadians. The project involves the development of a mechatronics system for a solar panel system on the exterior of windows, and the study of novel actuating mechanisms to optimize energy efficiency. An intelligent control system will be developed as a part of the automation in the project. Highly qualified personnel (HQP) will be recruited and trained in areas such as advanced mechatronics, engineering design, and control systems - important skills for a highly-technical workforce. In addition, the industrial partner will obtain access to an R&D team at the university-level, and will benefit from the development of an advanced energy system. The outcome of the proposed project will be beneficial to Canadian industry, and will also help mitigate the effects of climate change on Canadians.
