To support the fast expansion of the Internet*of Things (global value estimated to be $11 trillion by 2025), fifth-generation (5G) wireless networks*need to have the system capacity to accommodate an increasing demand from a massive number of wireless devices. The wireless networks also need to be energy efficient and self sustaining. In this research, we develop spectrum and energy efficient algorithms for 5G wireless networks to support Internet*of Things applications.******The research will help us understand the capacity, potential, and challenges of 5G wireless in supporting*the expected increase in user traffic demand. The research outcomes include mathematical models*and developed algorithms, and can help Canadian telecommunications companies develop and deploy*low cost, low complexity wireless networks with both spectrum and energy efficiency.*****
