Dr. Gordon is the Canada Research Chair in Nanoplasmonics, which is a field that combines nanotechnology and light by sculpting metals at the nanometer scale. This program aims to successfully innovate ultra-sensitive and highly-functional biosensors, in collaboration with industrial partners. These sensors will be based on nano-optical tweezers and enhanced Raman approaches that were of high academic impact in the first term of the CRC. The impact will be in providing solutions for better drug discovery and earlier detection of cancers. The program research is also targeting new ground-breaking approaches to overcome conventional limits of diffraction, with applications to subwavelength lithography for the nanofabrication industry, subwavelength imaging for the nano/microscopy industry, and extreme light-matter interactions for applications in nonlinear optics and enhanced spectroscopy.
