SOPREMA Canada is an international Quebec-based manufacturing company specializing in the manufacture of roofing waterproofing products. The company offers efficient solutions based on bitumen, waterproofing resins and synthetic membranes. This coating is installed by bituminous flame sealing. This installation process is expensive in terms of fire, building and health insurance, generates a lot of greenhouse gases, is difficult to adapt to quality control telemetry, and requires qualified and certified personnel who are not always available in all the countries served by the company. To solve this problem and ensure its growth in this market, SOPREMA wants to adapt its coating installation process to integrate flame-free inductive heating technologies, including process quality control by feedback and telemetry. Following a feasibility study carried out during a SEP of CRSNG by C2T3, SOPREMA now wants to move on to the physical realization of an experimental prototype. The innovative aspect of the project stems from its suitability for sustainable development modalities due to the elimination of the flame process, as well as the distributed intelligence in the inductive heating equipment. The implementation of this project will address the high cost of fire insurance, greenhouse gas emissions, and the lack of certified personnel in the countries served by the company. It will allow the development of an innovative process for the installation of waterproofing coatings that can be deployed on an international scale, allowing SOPREMA to stand out from the competition with a state-of-the-art solution in the roofing market.
