项目摘要

Fishes respond to ecosystem change (e.g., climate change, species invasions or contaminants) in many ways, including changes in behaviour. Behavioural changes can alter growth rates, and therefore survival and spawning activity/success. Behavioural changes can also affect the likelihood of fish encountering fishing nets (termed catchability) that resource managers use to estimate population size (and allowable harvest). The research program of the Chair seeks to understand the role of fish behaviour and its adaptive role among fish populations facing ecosystem change, and to define relationships between fish behaviour and catchability so resource managers can improve fisheries population and harvest estimates.
