The advancement of modern technology and innovative electronic devices relies upon key investments in understanding fundamental processes in solids. Many of the current challenges in memory storage, room temperature superconductivity, and nanotechnology involve what condensed matter physicists call quantum materials. Quantum materials have strong correlations between the constituent electrons that often lead to new properties. This proposal outlines an interdisciplinary approach to synthesize and characterize new quantum materials that will ultimately lead towards an understanding of new emergent behaviour in quantum matter. A plan for the training of HQP and the dissemination of this knowledge is also presented.
