Electrical devices inherently radiate electromagnetic waves. Electromagnetic interference(EMI) occurs when radiated electromagnetic waves from a device interfere with its own operation or the operation of other nearby devices, causing their malfunction. As such, given the proliferation of electrical devices in modern society, shielding electromagnetic waves is a major concern. This CRC research program aims to develop polymer electromagnetic shields that satisfy the EMI shielding requirements for devices in several key industry sectors, including aerospace, automotive and defense, and that have properties superior to those of current metallic shields in terms of weight, cost, corrosion resistance, and design options.
