This nomination is to propose a unique, vibrant program in coastal environmental engineering with focus on bio-aided oil pollution control. It aims at fulfilling the following objectives: 1) to generate innovative methodologies and green bio-products (e.g., bio-herders, bio-nanoemulsifiers, and magnetic modified oil-degrading bacteria) through integration of biotechnologies, genome tools and environmental engineering approaches; 2) to develop advanced methodologies and biotechnologies for achieving effective oil mitigation in coastal seawater, beaches and shoreline soils, especially in harsh environments; and 3) to contribute to the knowledge of coastal environmental engineering, enhancing Canadas competitiveness and creating impacts internationally in the field.
