The dynamics of the high-energy particle environment surrounding the Earth gives rise to the radiation belts that are dangerous for satellites upon which our increasingly technological society depends. These particles can also effect radio wave propagation in ways that challenge the reliability of GPS and interfere radio communications (for example, trans-polar aircraft). My goal is to further develop observational techniques that broaden the scope of available information about the near-Earth space environment. I will use these techniques to study a range of fundamental space science problems and advance applications for space weather monitoring and prediction.
