Linda Parkers program of research cuts across the traditional boundaries of psychology, pharmacology and neurobiology, contributing not only to understanding basic processes of learning, but also to how those processes impact on food selection, addiction and gastrointestinal malaise. Her group is involved in interdisciplinary research with teams of chemists, pharmacologists, neuroscientists and psychologists around the world trying to characterize the functions of the newly discovered endogenous cannabinoid neuromodulator system in the brain, particularly in the regulation of nausea and vomiting. Parker is an acknowledged world leader in the neurobiology of nausea and vomiting and associative mechanisms underlying food aversion learning.
