My research focuses on the causes of adaptive radiation the rise of ecological diversity in groups of organisms whose species are multiplying rapidly which is thought to be responsible for much of life's diversity. This work uses mainly threespine stickleback of small coastal lakes of BC, which include some of the youngest species on earth of any organism, and have enormous advantages for study. The last decade has seen rapid development of genetic resources for stickleback, and our future work will take advantage of this to investigate the origin of genetic differences, the mechanisms by which new species have formed, and the role of interactions between species on evolution.
