英文摘要
Measuring time is one of the most important things that we, as humans, do. Much of our technology is driven by speed. The very limits of our current measurement capability is to resolve events that take place in attoseconds, the unimaginably short time of 10^-18 seconds. Attoseconds is the natural time scale of electrons. The National Research Council - Canada Research Chair in Attosecond Photonics has successfully advanced the goal of generating, measuring and applying these pulses. Now there is an opportunity to extend attosecond measurement from gases to solids, to develop coherent 2-dimentional absorption spectroscopy as a means of determining the energy couplings in multi-electron molecules and to develop imaging mass spectrometry into a practical tool for health research.
