The Chairs research has two thrusts: 1. Cryobiological Thermodynamics & Transport, and Cryopreservation:Cryobiology is the study of the effect of low temperatures on life, with themain application of cryopreserving cells and tissues for future use. TheChair will lead an interdisciplinary, collaborative program on fundamental cryobiology and development of cryopreservation protocols.2. Surface, Interface, Colloid and Nanoscale Thermodynamics & Transport:Colloids are materials with phase dimensions between 1 nanometer and10 micrometers. The Chair will solve important, challenging problems toprovide equations for prediction, design and control of surfaces, interfaces and colloids prominent in nature, industry and science.
