英文摘要
Evolution is now known to proceed rapidly whenever environments change. This evolution should have important consequences for ecological patterns and processes, including population dynamics (abundances), community structure (biodiversity), and ecosystem function (services). Hendry studies these effects in Galápagos, focusing especially on how plants shape the evolution of finch beaks and how that evolution feeds back to influence plant communities. Four key questions are to be addressed. How do finch trait distributions influence seed and plant communities? How are plants evolving in response to finches? What is the genetic basis for these evo-to-eco effects? How are humans influencing these eco-evolutionary dynamics?
