Dr. Crespi will determine the roles of natural selection in the evolution and organization of human cognition and the brain. His work is unique in that he is combining information from genetics (DNA sequence), epigenetics (DNA modifications), hormones, psychological tests, and human evolutionary history to understand the biological bases of human brain functions. The primary importance of these studies is that they will provide novel insights into human personality and psychological variation, and the causes of mental illnesses. These insights will illuminate how the human brain works, and guide the development of new therapies.
