The goal of the proposed research program is to advance sustainable building design that yields high performing (energy efficient, healthy, comfortable and durable), and at the same time environmentally friendly and cost-effective buildings. Innovative research on the impact of integrating new materials, design concepts and technologies in sustainable building at the building envelope and whole-building levels are the foci of the program. The research program is based on building physics and encompasses not only new building designs but also issues related to the retrofitting existing buildings. The research program aim is to reduce the environmental impacts of buildings and to increase economic opportunities, and social and health benefits for Canadians.
