With the ever-growing need for powerful computation and the physical size limitation of transistors, quantum materials manifesting entangled physics have become essential for the first steps into quantum computation. In particular, it is imperative to identify topological materials possessing fractional particles, which are fundamentally novel in that they are protected from decoherence. Professor Kee proposes to explore new materials with these highly entangled particles, to investigate factors determining particle lifetimes, and to design materials with optimal functionalities to meet societal needs. Her research will elevate the capacities of modern technology and bridge the gap between abstract theory and real materials.
