The proposed CRC in Mine Water Management and Stewardship is driven by an overarching goal to revolutionize the use and management of water resources within mining firms and in mining regions to minimize techno-engineering and societal risks. The research program integrates the fields of mining engineering, hydrology and operations research. I will develop new models for optimizing water use at mine sites in the presence of uncertainties and complex trade-offs, and develop approaches for managing the cumulative effects of mines on water resources at regional scales.
