Our perspective plays a central role in memory by shaping how we form and see the past from alternative points-of-view. Impairments in perspective in memory contribute to post-traumatic stress disorder, which affects 9.2% of Canadians. The proposed research program will use state-of-the-art immersive virtual reality technologies in combination with neuroimaging to understand for the first time how the brain forms memories from multiple visual perspectives. This research will help to resolve current debate regarding the origin of alternative perspectives in memories and offer a new way to understand how the flexibility of perspective in virtual reality impacts our memories.
