Resolute is currently landfilling 30 000 tons of papermill biosolids (PB) and wood ash (WA) annually from its Thunder Bay operation that could be land applied by area farmers to increase yields and soil quality. The project goal is to determine an optimal mixture of PB and WA for yield and soil quality within the regulatory framework. Identifying a ratio of biosolids to wood ash for land application that will increase crop yields, soil quality and divert waste from the landfill is a realistic, timely and desired goal that will increase revenues for both Resolute and area growers. Investment in this project will improve environmental quality and contribute to the training of the next generation of researchers.
