The current pandemic has taken a toll on the volunteer sector as social distancing measures has made organizations struggle to find any volunteers. Professor Xu (Sunny) Wang, in collaboration with Lovell Corporation, will develop a platform that will help Canadian organizations build capacity-at a regional, provincial and national levels-create a community response ecosystem and mobilize people to take actions for specific needs unique to their communities during the recovery efforts from the COVID-19 pandemic. It will also allow to further develop the digital tools to reopen the volunteer sector-identifying and matching workers to the needs of local non-profits and charities, allowing contactless interactions and incentives for volunteers to increase recruitment and address the drastic reduction in the size of the volunteer workforce.
