We have created a predictive human phenotypic assay to quantify muscle stem cell-mediated skeletal muscle repair in a dish. This enables us to identify factors and molecules that positively or negatively impact muscle repair in the context of healthy and diseased situations. Currently, the need to scale the phenotypic assay manufacturing and data analysis, and to determine assay reproducibility limits the translation of our platform from an academic setting into industrial use. Hence, in this Phase I application we seek I2I funds to establish a scalable manufacturing method and automated image analysis pipeline for our platform, and to quantify the reproducibility of outcomes obtained within the scaled platform. Overcoming these engineering challenges will position us to form an Ontario-based start-up and/or license the technology to an existing biotech company.
