Many chronic human conditions remain poorly treated. Diseases like cancer, arthritis, gastrointestinal disorders, kidney disease and many others lack effective therapies. It is the goal of modern medicine to develop drugs for these diseases and improve the health-span of society. The effort involves fundamental research into the nature of disease, drug product discovery and development, and drug monitoring. All these activities stretch over multiple industries and rely heavily upon scientific tools of molecular analysis, like the mass spectrometer. These tools are used to discover drugs, shorten the path to their development, ensure product safety and determine if the drugs are working in the population. Mass spectrometers, like many modern tools of analysis, generate complex data streams that are difficult to interpret. The current project will launch a powerful development framework called the Mass Spec Studio to create software products for data analytics. This proprietary framework is an app development generator that supports mass spectrometry and can be expanded to other techniques. The project will deliver its flagship product (HXauto) for measuring the safety and stability of biologics, an important new class of drug therapy. Successful commercialization of HXauto will validate our business plans and lead to a new Canadian software design firm in partnership with a major international life sciences company.
