Using biological brain cells embedded onto silicon chips, the project aims to merge the fields of artificial intelligence and synthetic biology to create programmable cyborg computing chips. Further is to investigate the neurobiological aspects of distinct cells to identify key factors that facilitate neural computation. The outcomes of such research would have significant implications across multiple fields such as, but not limited to, planning, robotics and advanced automation. Development of such fundamental technology would afford Australia a significant strategic advantage with potential results realisable as early as 2040.
