英文摘要
This proposal describes the ongoing progress and new directions of our program which is aimed at developing new synthetic organic reactions and their application to the synthesis of important target molecules, usually of biological or medical importance. Such reactions center around several themes: 1. The use of donor-acceptor cyclopropanes for the synthesis of carbocycles and heterocycles, 2. The radical and carbenoid functionalization of heterocyclic motifs, 3. The development of new dipolar cycloaddiitons, and 4. The elaboration of the products from these processes into molecular frameworks of interest to the organic chemical community. The target molecules selected for synthesis are often chosen as a showcase for the reactions we develop, however in some cases they are chosen for their sheer complexity and unusual structures. The benefits of our research program to the chemical community are twofold: 1. The methods we develop will be welcome additions to the chemical arsenal of the synthetic chemist and 2. The projects of target oriented synthesis provide the best training milieu known for synthetic chemists moving forward to subsequent endeavors, industrial or academic.
