Le bleuet nain(Vaccdium Angustifolium)是加拿大魁北克等国最重要的文化和经济活动。
Fruit set and yields largely depend on pollinating insects. Large sums of money are invested each year for the rental or purchase of pollinator colonies, mainly the honeybees (Apis mellifera) and bumblebees (Bombus impatiens). However, there are significant gaps in our knowledge regarding several aspects of lowbush blueberry pollination. This project aims to acquire novel scientific knowledge that will increase lowbush blueberry crop yields and help optimize the management of commercial pollinators. Specifically, 1) we will assess the impact of honeybee hive density on yields and fruit production and quality; 2) we will compare the quality of pollination carried out by the honeybees with that carried out by bumblebees and 3) we will determine the composition (proportion of worker bees and brood) and the strength (number of bees) that must contain a hive in order to achieve maximum foraging. Our project will therefore have significant benefits for the beekeeping industry, since we will assess the impact of our proposals (increase in hive densities; ideal population structure and strength of hives) on the health and performance of honey bee colonies. In addition, other agricultural productions requiring commercial pollinators (apple, cranberry, etc.) will also benefit from the scientific knowledge of this project.
