英文摘要
This project will explore circuits and systems to reduce the cost and power consumption of wireless communication equipment. Specifically, the project will be focused on diversity RXs used in wireless cellular communication to improve the data-rate in some particular scenarios by using an additional low-cost receiver chain to take advantage of the channel diversity. In order to reduce the power consumption and the cost of this additional receiver, this research aim to explore the concept of liquid digital signal processing and quantized amplification recently developed at the University of Toronto. Prototyping the circuits and systems in advanced nanoscale CMOS will provide unique training for graduate students and enhance the work's commercial relevance and impact. The research will be undertaken by 1 faculty, 3 graduate students, and researchers from the partner company, Huawei. Huawei is a world leader in research and development in this area and their research activity, focused specifically on analog /mixed signal circuits for wireless infrastructures, makes them a perfect partner for the project. The project offers outstanding training opportunities and it will boost competitiveness for the Canadian partner company, all in pursuit of lower cost and major efficiency for the wireless mobile handset, widely diffused in Canada.
