The first deals with noise reduction by correctly designing the ventilation wheel with a focus on its aerodynamic performance. To do this, we will develop new design technologies based on blade shape optimization by the adjoint methods in relative reference. The second approach is to reduce noise through a new generation of acoustic treatments applied to the walls of the volute and the filter grid. For this purpose, we will explore and develop new concepts of thermo-visco-acoustic metamaterials subject to airflow and adapted to the problem (restricted space, extended frequency range). Through an original optimization process, these metamaterials will be combined to form volute metawalls and filtration metagrids. The integration of the three optimized elements (wheel, metawalls, metagrids) in a prototype of air extraction system will be analyzed and tested experimentally. This system is expected to be quieter than conventional systems while maintaining or increasing its aerodynamic performance. New modeling approaches such as the coupling of numerical thermo-visco-acoustic analysis to analytical serial and parallel transfer matrices, as well as new adjoint aerodynamic design optimization solvers, will be proposed and transferable to the industrial partner. This project will have a social and environmental impact by helping to reduce the noise caused by residential ventilation systems and improve the quality of life of residents.
