Consequently, more and more severe noise specifications and standards have been established around airports. Moreover, the continuous increase of the turbofan by-pass ratio has allowed decreasing jet noise steadily making fan noise dominant in all three airplane certification conditions. Finally, emerging new transport technologies such as drones or urban air taxis with multiple fan systems only emphasize the importance of the noise generated by rotating machines in air transport. Its prediction and its reduction are therefore a major society challenge. In the past ten years, significant progress has been achieved in the development of analytical models able to predict the noise from various rotating machines (low-speed fans, high-speed turbomachinery, in free field or ducted) with the execution speed and accuracy necessary for early efficient design. A software platform Optisound has been developed by the industrial partner Optis in partnership with Université de Sherbrooke to commercialize the solution and therefore favor the noise reduction in several industrial sectors. Nevertheless, certain physical models still have limitations or rely on limited experimental database. Moreover, the most complex models are still too slow to be efficiently integrated in an optimization loop. The project will address the aforementioned limitations by using several artificial intelligence techniques to develop new models, to speed up their execution in order to achieve optimization, and also to extend Optis range of applications. Optis will not only improve its unique software portfolio but also its range of expertise, for the benefits of Québec and Canada.
